Program Manager and Member Relations – ACORD
Cal has been in the insurance industry since 1980, starting out as an underwriter and field representative for a large commercial property carrier. In 1990, she joined ACORD where she has worked in the Forms, Standards, Membership, and Marketing departments. As the ACORD Facilitator for AUGIE (ACORD-User Group Information Exchange), she works with the various management system user groups, independent agents, and carriers to address technology and workflow opportunities. In addition she is an advocate for the real time campaign (www.getrealtime.org). Mr. Vucovich is the President, Brokerage Shared Services and a member of the Executive Management Team for Hub International Limited, a leading insurance brokerage company providing a broad array of property, casualty, risk management, employee benefits, investment and wealth management products across North America. Mr. Vucovich is responsible for all non-financial back office operations and processes required to support client transactions. These areas include Information Technology, Real Estate, Client Services, Payroll Processing and Purchasing. Mr. Vucovich’s prior experience includes executive management positions within corporations and consulting organizations. His most recent experience was head of the Global Business Technology Solutions group for an international consulting organization. In this role, Mr. Vucovich worked with Fortune 500 companies to align business strategy, operations and technology investment. In addition, Mr. Vucovich has held the positions of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for an off-shore software development outsourcing start-up, Group Vice President for a Fortune 100 national property & casualty insurer, Managing Director – Strategy & Change at a Fortune 500 multi-national consulting organization. Mr. Vucovich serves as a Board of Trustee for Jane Addams Hull House, Junior Achievement of Chicago and as an Advisory Board Member for Illinois State University College of Business. He is also active as a Board Member on the Lakes Youth Athletic Association.
Senior Vice President – QBE Specialty Insurance
Fabian Burstyn is SVP Underwriting – QBE Specialty, based in New York. He manages the program auto business and acts in the lead marketing role within the Specialty division. Previous to managing the auto business group, Fabian managed the workers compensation group from 2003-2007. With 22 years of insurance industry experience, Fabian holds certification through the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). He earned a bachelor’s degree from Wagner College in Staten Island, N.Y.

Mr. Black has been in the insurance industry for over 28 years and currently serves as Executive Vice President of Axiom Insurance Managers, responsible for underwriting and product/program development. A graduate of Villanova University, he began his career as an independent agent, and after earning his CPCU designation in 1986 moved to underwriting management at a national carrier. His company career has been varied and prolific – developing a large number of P&C products as well as policy and claim administration systems – and his experience includes personal and commercial; multi-distribution; and admitted and non-admitted business. John has held senior leadership positions in marketing, underwriting, product development, product management and executive administration at several national carriers. As a veteran of over 13 major IT projects at national carriers, John currently consults with various industry organizations through partnerships with several major IT and management consulting firms.

Mr. Cunningham serves as Executive Vice President of NBIS responsible for Marketing, Underwriting, Claims, Risk Management, and Operations. He possesses over 25 years experience in loss control, claims and insurance underwriting of high hazard industries. Mr. Cunningham developed the worldwide exclusive endorsements of the “Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association (SC&RA)”, and is a recognized national speaker and has written various articles relating to risk management for the crane and rigging industry, including the “Insurance & Risk Management Insight” column for American Cranes & Transport publication. Mr. Cunningham has been elected as a Commissioner of the National Commission for Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO), and is a faculty member of the Construction Safety Council. Mr. Cunningham previously held executive management positions at Lumberman’s Underwriting Alliance, AON, Alternative Insurance Services, Inc. and Special Risk Services Group. Mr. Cunningham captained Iowa State University football team to the Peach Bowl in 1977 and played professionally in the NFL and World Football league prior to his insurance career.

Patrick Daley is the Executive Vice President of Alternative Programs for Zurich’s Programs business. The Alternative Programs unit incorporates programs that utilize a unique risk transfer mechanism or distribution component as well as those that require property underwriting expertise. Markets served include agriculture, marine and aviation, consumer lines, E&S, and property CAT.
Prior to joining Zurich in 2006, Patrick held the position of vice president and regional underwriting manager at Swiss Re in Chicago. A 20 year veteran, Patrick has extensive experience working with structured programs with primary and reinsurance brokers as well as with insurance carriers on a direct basis. Patrick earned his MBA from DePaul University’s Kellstadt School of Business and has an undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University. He has also attained membership in CPCU.

Sally Roberts joined Business Insurance in 1992 as a staff reporter in Chicago where she began covering the insurance brokerage beat for the weekly trade magazine. She was named associate editor in 1993 and then senior editor in 2003. She opened the Denver bureau of Business Insurance in January 1998. In addition to covering the retail brokerage beat, Sally also covers reinsurance brokers and the excess and surplus lines market for BI. In 2009, she began writing a weekly blog called Broker Buzz. Sally holds a BS in Journalism and a BA in English from the University of Kansas. Business Insurance serves business executives who are responsible for the purchase and administration of corporate insurance/self-insurance programs, encompassing both property and liability insurance and employee benefit programs, including life, health and pensions. Steve Strauss is the Vice President of Business Development at Berkley Underwriting Partners, LLC (BUP). He joined BUP in July of 2007. Steve is responsible for the generation of new business and the continuing development of existing relationships with a growing portfolio of Program Administrators. BUP provides admitted & non-admitted “A” rated paper. BUP is looking for specialized niche program administrators that want a financially stable, reliable, and consistent partner. Steve is also in charge of communications and marketing for BUP. Prior to joining Berkley Underwriting Partners, Strauss was the Casualty Vice President at FolksAmerica Re where his focus was on developing and underwriting program business. He has worked a wide variety of lines in his career from General Liability to Ocean Marine. Before joining FolksAmerica Re, Steve worked at CNA Re as a Vice President and Specialty Regional Team Leader. He also worked within the Kemper group and was a Kemper Scholar. Steve has obtained his CPCU and Are designations.

Todd Germano is President, Allied World U.S. Property & Casualty. Hired in March 2008, Todd brought with him 11 years experience from his work with American International Group, Inc. (AIG). Most recently serving as Executive Vice President for AIG Specialty Excess, his past positions with AIG also include Senior Vice President, AIG Excess Casualty, Construction Specialty Division; Underwriting Officer, AIG Excess Casualty; and Divisional Vice President, AIG Excess Casualty, National Accounts. Todd was also Production Underwriter for Professional Risk Brokers of New York, Inc. at Great American Insurance Company for 5 years. Mr. Germano graduated with a Masters of Business Administration in Finance from Fordham University and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a Major in Marketing from the University of Connecticut.
